Dancing Classrooms (DC) is a dance organization committed to bringing social dance to NYC schools and community based organizations while helping students develop teamwork, respect, compassion, and leadership. Through various programming, DC has evolved over the years to include culturally responsive and sustaining educational (CRSE) practices, a commitment to inclusion and diversity, and the expansion of both in- and out-of-school programming to connect with students in new ways.
We are looking for movers, social and ballroom dancers, movement explorers, dance educators… any and all who find joy in expressing through movement. Be a part of the excitement and develop your own skills by joining our Teaching Artist team!
DC is currently hiring Teaching Artists to teach our in-school residencies Dancing With Rhythms & Stories (K-3rd Grade), Social Ballroom (4th & 5th Grade), and our after-school Social Dance Clubs (K-8th Grade). Applicants may apply to teach as many programs as they are interested in.

Audition* Date & Time: May 14th or 19th, 2 PM – 5 PM (Virtual submissions will be accepted if unable to attend the in-person audition date)
Notified by: Notified if invited to audition on a rolling basis; Notified if invited to training by May 22nd
Mandatory In-Person Training* & PD Dates for all Trainees (all dates required):
- June 23-27, 2026 (Social Ballroom – Summer Intensive Training)
- September 11, 2026 (Back-to-School All Staff Professional Development)
Mandatory In-Person Shadowing: Late September – December. Upon completion of training, Teaching Artist Trainees will be required to complete 15 hours of paid shadowing at schools across the city, throughout the fall and/or winter term. This shadowing may coincide with teaching a residency.
Optional / Invited Training Dates for K-3 & After School Programs: TBD fall dates. Teaching Artist Trainees must complete Social Ballroom training (see dates above) before being eligible to teach Dancing with Rhythms & Stories or After School Social Dance Clubs.
*Location of auditions and training will be an accessible location in Midtown Manhattan.*
All TAs must be fingerprinted and pass a NYC Department of Education background check, and may be asked to complete additional fingerprinting/checks for other city or state agencies if needed. Accepted TAs will be paid a stipend of $17/hr for training. If hired to teach a residency, TAs will receive instructional pay between $48-$60/hr per residency based on a tier system, and will receive a rate of $25/hr for planning/meetings/professional development. Commitment to training dates is non-negotiable.
General Requirements and Qualifications:
- Availability to teach two or more back-to-back classes, at least two days a week during the school year within 8AM – 3PM timeframe (DWRS/ Social Ballroom programs) and/or from 2PM – 6PM (Social Dance Clubs after school programs)
- 1-2 years teaching experience (preferred)
- Have expertise in at least 1-2 social dance styles
- Be willing to travel within NYC’s 5 boroughs (ability to travel within Westchester and/or New Jersey is a plus!)
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Love kids
- Possess and maintain high energy
- Have a growth mindset and be receptive to feedback
- Have a generous, respectful, and compassionate spirit
- Have a sense of humor, language, and rhythm
- Be professional and prompt
- Possess strong classroom management skills
- Ability to create a lesson plan
